‘Mahindra XUV900’ Trademarked In India – New Premium SUV?

Mahindra has officially announced to launch an all-new XUV700 SUV in the third quarter of 2021. Codenamed W601, the new SUV will be slotted above the existing XUV500 and will be positioned against the Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar and MG Hector Plus. The company has officially announced via social media that the XUV500 will be temporarily discontinued upon the launch of the XUV500.

Interestingly, Mahindra has trademarked the XUV900 nameplate. Details about the product are yet to be disclosed, but this could be the name for a premium SUV. It could be introduced in the future as the Alturas G4 replacement to rival the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, MG Gloster, etc.

Mahindra XUV700 Launch & Other Details

The new Mahindra XUV700 will be launched during the festive season, before Diwali. The new model will be offered in 6-and 7-seat layout with former getting captain seats for the second row occupants. The SUV will be offered with two engine options – a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol and a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.

The Mahindra XUV700 will be based on the new modular monocoque platform, which will also underpin the new XUV500 5-seater model. The new SUV will feature an optional AWD system. It will also receive ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) features such as autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, etc.
