Citroen Small SUV (Nexon, Kiger Rival) To Debut In May – Report

PSA Groupe recently commenced its Indian operations with the launch of the Citroen C5 Aircross SUV. It’s the brand’s flagship model priced between Rs 29.90 lakh – Rs 31.90 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom). While the C5 Aircross is being sold as a CKD unit, the carmaker aims to produce its upcoming models using 90% locally sourced components. The next big launch from the French carmaker will be sub-4-metre SUV (codenamed – Citroen CC21) that will be positioned against the cars like Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite and Tata Nexon.

According to a fresh media report, the Citroen CC21 will make its global debut on 20th May 2021. The small UV will be launched in India, North Africa and South America in the month of September. The model will be produced under the brand’s “C Cubed” programme and is estimated to cost as low as Rs 9 lakh (ex-showroom). India and Brazil will be the major production hubs for Citroen’s upcoming compact SUV. Citroen’s Thiruvallur-based facility in Tamil Nadu has annual production capacity of 100,000 units.

Citroen C21 Compact SUV

Rumour has it that the Citroen small SUV will be the new-generation Citroen C3. It will be designed on the PSA Groupe’s CMP (Common Modular Platform) that’s compatible to different body styles and electric powertrains. The architecture underpins several Peugeot, Opel, DS, Citroen and Vauxhall cars. It’s claimed to meet the highest standards in terms of emissions. The CMP platform reduces vibrations, thanks to its axle architecture and acrylic materials used in the floor.

Reports suggest that the Citroen CC21 could be India’s first flex-fuel powered car. It might be offered with a 1.2L petrol engine with ethanol blends ranging from 27% to entirely on the biofuel. The small SUV could also be available with a 10bhp, 1.2L turbocharged petrol engine. For performing transmission duties, it might have a 5-speed manual gearbox.
