The single-cylinder quarter-litre motorcycle segment is witnessing a huge surge in demand. In the past few months, we have witnessed multiple launches including the Triumph Speed 400 and the Harley Davidson X400. In fact, KTM is also ready to launch the new-gen Duke 390 with all-new styling and engine option. TVS Motor Company has also introduced a new Apache RTR 310 naked motorcycle at a starting price of Rs 2.43 lakh, which goes up to Rs 2.64 lakh.

– The newly launched Apache RTR 310 is avaiable in 3 variants – Arsenal Black (Without Quickshifter), Arsenal Black and Fury Yellow – priced at Rs 2.43 lakh, Rs 2.58 lakh and Rs 2.64 lakh (ex-showroom India) respectively.

– TVS is also offering BTO (Built To Order) kits. There are 4 kits on offer – Dynamic Kit, Dynamic Pro Kit and Sepang Blue – priced at Rs 18,000, Rs 22,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively.

– The Triumph Speed 400 is only available in a single variant, which is priced at Rs 2.33 lakh (ex-showroom India). For the first 10,000 customers, the bike was introduced at an introductory price tag of Rs 2.23 lakh. However, it offers multiple customization options to buyers.

Specifications & Key Details

– The Apache RTR 310 is powered by a 312.2cc single-cylinder DOHC 4-valve liquid-cooled engine that produces 35.11bhp at 9,700rpm and a peak torque of 28.7Nm at 6,600rpm. It is coupled to a 6-speed gearbox.

Triumph Speed 400 Price

– The Triumph Speed 400 is powered by a 398cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that churns out 40bhp at 8000rpm and 37.5Nm of torque at 6500rpm. It is paired to a 6-speed gearbox.

– Thanks to bigger capacity engine, the Speed 400 is more powerful and torquier than the Apache RTR 310. It offers close to 5bhp of more power and 9Nm of higher torque, which should improve its highway cruising ability.

– The Apache RTR 310 has many technically advanced features such as slipper clutch, ride-by-wire, tyre pressure monitoring system, bi-directional quickshifter, dynamic stability control, cornering ABS, cruise control, wheelie control, cornering traction control, rear lift-off control, cornering cruise control and slope dependent control.

– On the other hand, the Triumph Speed 400 is a simple bike with less mechanics. It has slipper clutch and ride-by-wire tech.

TVS Apache RTR 310 Features

– The Apache RTR 310 also comes with heated & cooled seat, which is not available with any other motorcycle on sale in India. It also offers 5 riding modes – Urban, Rain, Sport, Track and SuperMoto.

– The Apache RTR 310 rides on a compact wheelbase of 1358mm, which is 19mm less than that of the Speed 400 (1377mm). It offers a ground clearance of 180mm and seat height of 800mm, while the Speed 400 has a ground clearance of 170mm and a seat height of 790mm. At 169kgs, the Apache RTR 310 is good 7kgs lighter than the Triumph’s Speed 400.

– It has a fuel tank of 11-litres capacity, while the Speed 400 has a bigger fuel tank of 13-litres capacity. Both bikes ride on 17-inch alloys with 110/70 and 150/60 section front and rear tyres respectively.

– For braking, the TVS Apache RTR 310 gets 300mm front and 240mm rear disc brakes along with dual channel ABS. The Speed 400 also has dual discs, but it has 230mm rear disc unit. The former has 41mm USD front fork and monoshock at the rear with compression and rebound options, the later has 43mm USD front forks and monoshock at the rear.

– Both bikes get LED lighting system (headlight, tail-light and turn indicators). The Apache RTR 310 has fully digital 5-inch colour TFT, while the Speed 400 Semi digital instrument console. The former’s instrument unit also supports smartphone connectivity, notification alerts, GoPro connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation and many more.
