Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor – Is it Re-badged Maruti Fronx?

Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s recent application for a new trademark, ‘Urban Cruiser Taisor’, has sparked speculation about its usage. While no official confirmation has been provided regarding the product associated with this nameplate, it is rumored to be linked to the upcoming re-badged Maruti Suzuki Fronx, expected to launch during the festive season. Additionally, it’s likely that the Toyota Taisor could serve as a replacement for the Urban Cruiser, which was discontinued in November 2022.

The collaborative compact crossover between Toyota and Maruti Suzuki is expected to exhibit distinct design elements both on its exterior and interior. The Toyota Taisor micro SUV is projected to feature unique front and rear bumper designs, as well as wheels. Differences might also be noticeable in fog lamp surrounds and certain plastic components, reminiscent of the Toyota Rumion compact MPV. The interior is anticipated to showcase variations such as a revised dashboard with new inserts and updated upholstery.

The top-end trim of the Taisor is anticipated to offer exclusive features such as a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a 360-degree camera, Head-Up Display (HUD), cruise control, 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, and dual-tone color options. Other features are likely to include a 6-speaker sound system, fast USB charging points, Suzuki connected car features, a rearview camera, colored MID in the instrument cluster, wireless charger, 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless smartphone connectivity, voice assistant capabilities, OTA updates, and a six-airbag configuration.

Regarding its engine configuration, the Toyota micro SUV is expected to adopt a powertrain similar to the Maruti Fronx. The latter is currently available with two petrol engine options: a 1.2L naturally aspirated (producing 90bhp and 113Nm) and a 1.0L Boosterjet (generating 100bhp and 147Nm). Both manual and AMT gearboxes will be offered. Mileage figures are projected to be in line with the Fronx’s claimed fuel efficiency ratings of 21.79kmpl (1.2L petrol-manual), 21.5kmpl (1.0L turbo petrol-manual), and 20.01kmpl (1.0L turbo petrol-automatic).

More details on the upcoming Toyota micro SUV (Toyota Taisor) will be revealed in coming weeks. Stay tuned to IndiaCarNews.
