Toyota Plans 5 New Cars For India In 2022-23 – New Urban Cruiser, Mid-Sized SUV

Japanese automaker, Toyota is gearing up for the launch of the much-awaited new Hilux pick-up truck. Not just Hilux, the company is also preparing facelifts of existing models along with an all-new mid-sized SUV for the Indian market. Toyota plans to launch 5 new cars and SUVs in the country in 2022-23.

Toyota dealers have already started accepting pre-orders for the Hilux lifestyle pick-up; however, official announcement is yet to be made. The new pick-up was recently caught fully undisguised during its TVC shoot in Gurgaon. Likely to be priced between Rs 25 lakh and Rs 30 lakh, the new lifestyle pick-up will be positioned as a premium alternative to the likes of the Isuzu Hi-Lander & V-Cross.

Toyota Hilux India Launch

The Toyota Hilux is developed on the IMV-2 platform that underpins the Innova Crysta and the Fortuner. It is likely to be powered by a 2.8-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine that pushes out 201bhp and 500Nm of torque. Transmission choices are likely to include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. The vehicle will also receive a 4×4 drivetrain.

Toyota has trademarked the Rumion nameplate in India. It is basically the Ertiga based MPV and is expected to be launched in the second quarter of 2022. It looks similar to the Ertiga; however, the Rumion will have cosmetic changes in the form of slightly revised grille and new Toyota’s badge. Powering the Toyota Rumion 7-seater MPV is the same 1.5L, 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine benefited with the SHVS mild hybrid technology. The gasoline unit pushes out a peak power of 103bhp and 138Nm of torque. It can be had with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 4-speed torque convertor automatic transmission.

Toyota Rumion MPV

The company will also launch the updated versions of the Glanza and the Urban Cruiser in 2022. While Glanza is based on the Baleno hatchback, the Urban Cruiser is basically the re-badged Vitara Brezza. Maruti Suzuki will launch the heavily revised Baleno & the Vitara Brezza in 2022. These changes will also be made on the Toyota’s versions.

Maruti Suzuki and Toyota JV is preparing a new mid-sized SUV, which will have two different body styles. The Toyota’s version is expected to be introduced in 2023. The new mid-sized SUV will be produced at Toyota’s facility in Bidadi, Karnataka. It is reported that the new model will be based on Toyota’s new low-cost DNGA (Daihatsu New Generation Architecture) that also underpins the Toyota Raize sub-compact SUV. The new model could be powered by a 1.5L petrol engine with a stronger hybrid system or a new 1.4L turbocharged petrol engine.
