The much-aniticipated Toyota Hilux lifestyle pick-up is ready to go on sale in the Indian market in January 2022. In fact, the vehicle was recently caught fully undisguised during its TV commercial shoot in Gurgaon. A new report claims that Toyota dealers have started accepting pre-bookings for the Hilux pick-up at a token amount of Rs 2 lakh.
Toyota is yet to make an official announcement on the same. It is expected that the Hilux will be offered in two variants – Hilux and Hilux Reo. Likely to cost around Rs 25 lakh to Rs 30 lakh, the new lifestyle pick-up will rival the Isuzuki Hi-Lander and V-Cross priced between Rs 18.05 lakh and Rs 25.60 lakh.
The Toyota Hilux is developed on the IMV-2 platform that underpins the Innova Crysta and the Fortuner. Measuring 5.3 meters in length, the pick-up has a wheelbase of over 3 meters that’s higher than the Innova & Fortuner. It is likely to be powered by a 2.8-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine that pushes out 201bhp and 500Nm of torque. Transmission choices are likely to include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. The vehicle will also receive a 4×4 drivetrain.
The entry-level variant could also get a 2.4-litre diesel engine that is good for 148bhp and 400Nm of torque. The Toyota Hilux Pick-up is likely to share several components from the locally produced Innova and Fortuner, which should help Toyota to achieve competitive pricing. The cabin is likely to source the dashboard design and seats with the Hilux. It is likely to get an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
