Toyota Hilux Lifestyle Pickup Coming This January 2022

The long-awaited Toyota Hilux pickup truck is reportedly to be launched in the Indian market in January 2022. It will be positioned against the Isuzu V-Cross. Previous media reports suggest that the new Hilux will be offered in two variants – Hilux and Hilux Reo.

The new Toyota Hilux pickup truck is based on the IMV-2 platform that underpins the Innova Crysta and the Fortuner. The Hilux measures 5.3 meters in length and has a wheelbase of over 3 meters, which is significantly higher than the Innova & the Fortuner.

Toyota will make some changes before launching the Hilux pickup in India. The report claims that the pickup will have a large hexagonal front grille, and new swept-back headlamps with LED DRLs. It features flared wheel arches, body cladding and side step give it a rugged profile. The rear profile is simple, featuring sculpted tail-lights. The new model could be offered in a double as well as single-cab versions.

The new Toyota Hilux is likely to share several components from the locally produced Innova and Fortuner, which should help Toyota to achieve competitive pricing. The cabin is likely to source the dashboard design and seats with the Hilux. It is likely to get an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Toyota Hilux pickup truck is likely to be powered by a 150bhp, 2.4-litre diesel engine that powers the lower-spec Innova Crysta in Indonesia. The higher-spec variant could get the 204bhp, 2.8-litre diesel engine with two- or four-wheel drive layout. Both manual and automatic gearbox options are likely to be on offer.

The Toyota Hilux Pick-up truck will be introduced as a CKD unit with some parts locally sourced. It is likely to be priced around Rs 25 lakh to Rs 35 lakh, which makes it a rival to the Isuzu Hi-Lander and V-Cross priced between Rs 18.05 lakh and Rs 25.60 lakh.
