Maruti Suzuki To Launch 5 New SUVs In 3 Years – More Details

At the recently held dealer conference, Maruti Suzuki has announced its plans to launch 5 new SUVs in the next 3 years. Some of these SUVs will be developed jointly with Toyota. Besides SUVs, Maruti Suzuki plans to launch next generations and facelifts of existing models. With new product offensive, MSIL aims to regain the lost market share which has dropped to 43.50 percent from over 50 percent.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-Door

Maruti Future SUV Range

The company will introduce the iconic Jimny nameplate in the country in the next couple of years. MSIL will launch the 5-door version of the SUV, which will be based on a longer wheelbase and will measure around 3.8 meters in length. It will be powered by a 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine that produces 103bhp and 138Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque convertor.

The new Jimny will be positioned against the Mahindra Thar and the Force Gurkha. The company has started RHD version of the 3-door Jimny for export markets. It is expected that the company could also launch the 3-door model alongside the 5-door Jimny.

2022 Maruti Vitara Brezza

Maruti Suzuki is gearing up for the launch of the new generation Vitara Brezza, which is reportedly to be marketed as new Brezza. The new model has already been leaked on the Internet, which reveals some interesting design and interior changes. The new model will retain the overall boxy profile; however, design elements and body panels will be completely new.

Codenamed YTA, the new model will come with several upmarket features such as a factory-fitted electric sunroof, a new free-standing touchscreen infotainment system, wireless charging and a sim-based connectivity option. It is likely to get a 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox with paddle shifters, and a provision of 6 airbags.

Maruti YTB compact SUV

Maruti Futuro SUV

Besides Brezza, Maruti Suzuki is also working on a new premium compact SUV to rival the expensive versions of the Hyundai Venue and the Kia Sonet. Codenamed YTB, the new SUV is likely to be based on the Baleno’s Heartect platform. It is expected to be powered by a 1.5L petrol engine with a stronger hybrid system. The new model is likely to get a coupe-styled roof, a sportier stance and SUV-like cladding. The YTB could be the production version of the Futuro-e SUV concept unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo.

Maruti-Toyota YFG mid-sized SUV

Maruti Vitara Brezza 2022

Maruti Suzuki and Toyota JV is preparing a new mid-sized SUV for the Indian market. Codenamed YFG, the new SUV is likely to measure around 4.3 meters in length and will rival the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, VW Taigun, Skoda Kushaq and the MG Astor. It is expected to be based on Toyota’s DNGA platform and will be produced at Toyota’s Bidadi plant. The new model is likely to be powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine with higher degree of electrification.

Maruti Suzuki 3-row premium SUV – codenamed Y17

Maruti Suzuki is preparing a new flagship SUV, which will be a 3-row model. It will rival the likes of the Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV700 and the MG Hector Plus. Report claims that the new SUV could be based on the Ertiga’s platform; however, we believe that this could be the 7-seater derivative of the YFG mid-sized SUV.
