The JV will develop two differently looking versions of the SUV – one for Toyota and the other one for MSIL – codenamed YFG.

Toyota is yet to make an official announcement on the launch timeline of the new D22 mid-sized SUV; however, media reports claim that the SUV could arrive as early as festive season – during Diwali. Based On DNGA Platform

Toyota Raize GR Sport

The new Toyota D22 mid-sized SUV will be designed and developed on the brand’s global DNGA (Daihatsu New Generation Architecture) platform. This platform currently underpins the Toyota Raize subcompact SUV and the new generation Avanza MPV. It is expected that the new Toyota 560B MPV will also be based on this platform.

The new Toyota D22 and the Maruti YFG mid-sized SUVs will be produced at Toyota’s Bidadi plant. This plant will serve as a production hub for this SUV for domestic as well export markets. The new model will be produced on the same production unit, which was earlier used to develop the Toyota Yaris sedan.

Hybrid Powertrain

The new Toyota D22 mid-sized SUV will come with Toyota’s hybrid technology. The alliance believe that the hybrid powertrain equipped model will account for a third of its production.
