Mahindra XUV400 (XUV300 Electric) Caught Testing

Mahindra has officially announced to launch 8 new electric vehicles in the country in the next few years. The company will soon launch the electric derivative of the KUV100, which was showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo. The homegrown UV maker is also preparing to launch the production version of the eXUV300 concept, which was showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo.

The company had showcased the concept version of the electric SUV, the production version is expected to arrive in 2023. To be positioned between the XUV300 and the XUV700 in terms of size, the new eXUV300 is rumoured to be called the Mahindra XUV400.

Mahindra XUV400 EV Spied

The new Mahindra XUV400 or XUV300 electric has been spotted testing on roads. The company currently has no electric vehicle in the private vehicle segment; however, things will change with the launch of the XUV300 EV and the eKUV100.

The spy images reveal that this is an electric vehicle with a lid on the front fender. This is a charging slot placed on the front fender, which is different from the one offered in the regular electric cars. The vehicle is likely to share design with the concept model with features like closed front grille, differently styled bumpers and new alloy wheels. The spotted model has differently styled rear profile. It looks slightly longer than the regular petrol or diesel variants.

The new Mahindra XUV400 will be the first model based on Mahindra Electric Scalable and Modular Architecture (MESMA) platform. This model was equipped with a 350V powertrain, which is expected to be joined by a more powerful 380V powertrain. While the lower-spec model will rival the Nexon EV, the higher variant will be on par with the MG ZS EV and the Hyundai Kona EV. It will be the first electric vehicle to feature the battery cells developed by LG Chem exclusively for India application.
