Buoyed by positive response for Kwid, Kiger and Triber, Renault is now looking at mid-sized and C-segment SUVs to drive sales in the highly competitive Indian market. The company has announced that the third generation Duster will arrive in our market; however, launch timeline is yet to be finalised.
Interestingly, the second generation Renault Koleos SUV has been spotted testing in the Indian market. It is early to comment on the launch of this SUV in our market, as this SUV will prove to be expensive in the price sensitive Indian market. It is expected that Renault could be using the second generation Koleos as a testing bed for new components.
For people not in know, the first generation Renault Koleos was launched in our market in 2011. However, it failed miserably due to its high price tag. The second generation Koleos was introduced globally in 2016. It is based on the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s CMF C/D platform that underpins the Espace, Talisman and Kadjar.
The Renault Koleos features the brand’s signature design, featuring the sculpted bonnet, the chrome highlighed typical Renault grille and slim LED headlamps. There are large C-shaped LED DRLs (daytime running lights). At the back, the SUV has wrpa-around LED ail-lights, roof-mounted spoiler, silver finish lower skid plate and faux exhausts.
The new Renault Koleos is offered with two petrol and two diesel engines, offering power outputs ranging between 130bhp and 175bhp. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and Renault-Nissan’s X-Tronic CVT box. AWD system is offered on some variants, offering switchable FWD and AWD modes, as well as full-tome AWD for low speeds.
