Demand of the SUVs is all-time high in the Indian automobile market. The automakers are struggling to satiate the rising demand in a timely manner due to semiconductor chip shortage. This is the reason why several popular models command a high waiting period. Though, there are a few SUVs, which have relatively lower waiting period. Here’re some key details of these models.

Nissan Magnite, the subcompact SUV from the Japanese automaker, currently commands a waiting period of up to 15 days. Its CVT variants are reported to available within 2-10 days. Though, the SUV’s red colour variant has a waiting period of 3 months. The Magnite comes with the 1.0L naturally aspirated petrol and 1.0L turbo petrol engines making 72bhp and 100bhp respectively. There is no diesel engine option. A 5-speed manual gearbox is standard, while the turbo-petrol variant is exclusively offered with a CVT automatic gearbox.

Buyers can get the Renault Kiger compact SUV within time period of 15-30 days, depending on the exterior colour scheme. Its red colour model has the highest waiting period of 3-4 months. Similar to the Magnite, the Kiger can be had with either a 10L NA petrol or a 1.0L turbo petrol engine. Earlier this year, the company updated the SUV model lineup with a few cosmetic changes and features such as air purifier, wireless charging and cruise control.

Engine setup of the Alcazar includes a 2.0L, 4-cylinder petrol (159bhp/192Nm) and a 1.5L, 4-cylinder turbo diesel (115bhp/250Nm). Both manual and automatic gearboxes are on offer. Its petrol manual and automatic variants are claimed to offer a mileage of 14.5kmpl and 14.2kmpl respectively. The diesel motor offers 20.4kmpl with manual and 18.1kmpl with automatic gearbox.

Volkswagen Taigun is being promised to deliver with in 20-45 days. The SUV’s 1.0L manual and automatic variants are reported to readily available at several Volkswagen dealerships in Hyderabad. The Taigun is currently available with the 1.0L, 3-cylinder turbo TSI petrol and 1.5L, 4-cylinder turbo TSI petrol engines. While the former makes a top power of 115bhp with 175Nm, the latter delivers 150bhp with 250Nm. A 6-speed manual gearbox is standard. The 1.0L TSO unit can also be had with a 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox and the 1.5L TSI comes with an optional 7-speed DCT automatic transmission.

MG’s Astor SUV currently has a waiting period of up to 2-3 months, depending on the color. It’s the first SUV in its segment to offer Level 2 ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) features. Some of its key features include a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Jio e-SIM for connected car features, in-car personal assistant, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, a 360 degree camera, a panoramic sunroof and more. For power, the MG Astor uses a 1.5L petrol and a 1.3L turbo petrol engine (reserved for top two trims). The SUV comes with manual and automatic gearbox options.
