Top 5 SUVs Confirmed For India Launch In 2023 – Maruti, Honda

At the 2023 Auto Expo, automakers have showcased multiple new SUVs which will be launched before the end of this year. Adding to it, few automakers have disclosed their plans for the Indian market. In this article, we bring you a list of top 5 new SUVs confirmed for India launch in 2023 –

Suzuki Jimny 4×4

Maruti Suzuki has unveiled the 5-door Jimny lifestyle SUV at the 2023 Auto Expo. Interested buyers can book the new Jimny online or at authorised NEXA dealerships by paying a token amount of Rs 25,000. The new model is expected to be launched sometime in the second quarter of 2023. It is based on the ladder-on frame chassis that underpins the 3-door Jimny Sierra on sale in select international markets. The SUV is powered by a 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine that produces 103bhp and 134Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque convertor automatic. It comes with ALLGRIP Pro 4×4 setup with low range transfer gear.

Maruti Suzuki has confirmed that the new Fronx Crossover will go on sale in the next couple of months. Bookings for the SUV have already started at a token amount of Rs 11,000. To be sold through NEXA dealerships, the new Fronx will rival the Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite, Hyundai Venue 1.0 and the Kia Sonet 1.0. It will be available with two engine options – a 89bhp, 1.2L DualJet petrol with smart hybrid tech and a 100bhp, 1.0L turbocharged petrol engine. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual as standard, an AMT with 1.2L and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic with 1.0L turbo petrol.

Honda has confirmed that its new SUV for India will be unveiled during Summer 2023 that’s April-May. The new SUV is expected to be launched during the festive season, before Diwali. It will be positioned against the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, VW Taigun, Skoda Kushaq and the MG Astor.

The new Honda SUV will be based on the modified version of the Amaze platform. The new SUV will share design cues from the bigger Honda SUVs including the CR-V and the HR-V. Inside the cabin, the SUV gets an all-electronic architecture and screen system that’s offered on the new Accord and CR-V. It is expected to get a new 10.2-inch digital driver display and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It is also likely to receive a camera-based advanced driver assistance system or ADAS, which we have already seen on the new City hybrid. The new SUV will be offered with two engine options – a 1.5L NA petrol and a 1.5L Atkinson cycle engine with a strong hybrid tech called the e:HEV.

Mahindra has recently launched the Thar RWD version, which is available with a 1.5L turbo diesel and a 2.2L turbo petrol engine. It is also working on a new 5-door Thar, which is expected to be launched sometime mid-2023. The new model will ride on a longer wheelbase and will have more space inside the cabin. It will be more practical compared to the existing 3-door model. The new SUV will be offered with two engine options – a 2.2L turbo diesel and a 2.0L turbo petrol.

The Korean automaker, Hyundai is also developing a new micro SUV, codenamed Ai3 for the Indian market. It will be based on the brand’s K1 platform that underpins Santro and the Hyundai Casper micro SUV. The new model will share the interiors and engine options with the Grand i10 Nios. It will be powered by a 1.2-litre NA petrol engine with manual and AMT gearbox options. Moreover, the new mini SUV will also receive a CNG version. The small SUV will rival the likes of the Tata Punch and the Citroen C3.
