Tesla Model 3 Caught Testing; India Launch In Coming Months

Recently, a heavily camouflaged prototype of the upcoming Tesla Model 3 was spotted undergoing testing in the country. It’s the first time when electric sedan was caught wearing full camouflage. The Model 3 will be the first offering from the American carmaker in India. Here, it will be brought via CBU (Completely Built Units) route from Tesla’s Gigafactory in Shanghai, China. The electric sedan is reported to arrive in India towards the end of this year. It will be the most affordable Tesla with an estimated price of around Rs 60,000 (ex-showroom).

In international markets, the Tesla Model 3 is offered with single and dual motor options. Its entry-level RWD (rear-wheel-drive) Standard Range Plus variant is claimed to offer a range of 423km and accelerate 0 to 100kmph in less than 6 seconds. There are two dual motor versions – Long Range AWD (all-wheel-drive) and Performance. The former promises a range of 568km and achieves 0 to 100kmph in under 4.5 seconds. The range-topping Performance is capable to do 0-100kmph in less than 3 seconds, while attaining a top speed of over 260kmph. It also comes with the upgraded braking system.

The Tesla Model 3 has ample legroom for the front and rear seats occupants and offers two boots (one at the front for the engine and one at the back). It has minimalistic design with lots of advanced goodies. One of its biggest attractions is a large landscape-oriented touchscreen that doubles up as the infotainment system and instrument cluster. It also controls AC functions, and navigation.

Similar to the biggest Model S sedan, the Model 3 might get the Autopilot feature that enables to steer the vehicle within a lane, change lanes with a tap of the turn signal, manage speed via active, traffic-aware cruise control, summon the car and parallel parking.
