Tesla founder, Elon Musk recently revealed that the production-ready version of the upcoming Cybertruck will stay true to the concept that broke cover in November 2019. A few minor cosmetic tweaks, however, will be made here and there to “make it slightly better”. Unlike the concept that has door handles, the final model will miss out on them. Musk didn’t reveal the mechanism that will replace the conventional door handle units. It’s similar to the system that was first introduced in the original Tesla Model X. The vehicle automatically detects the vehicle’s fob or user’s phone (if it’s setup as a key in the Tesla app) and an actuator opens the door as you approach it. Musk also revealed that the upcoming Tesla Cybertruck will come with the independent steering of the rear wheels. It will enhance its performance on tight turns and provide nimble handling.
If reports are to be believed, the Cybertruck will deliver an electric range of up to 610 miles (which is around 982kms) on a full charge. In towing mode, the pickup will be able to carry up to 20,000 lbs (which is over 9,000 kgs). The automaker has also patented new software for the electric pickup truck named “Context Sensitive User Interface For Enhanced Vehicle Operation”. It will offer deployable camper kitchen as an accessory. There will be three powertrain options – Single Motor RWD, Dual Motor AWD and Tri Motor AWD.
The upcoming Tesla Cybertruck will enter into production towards the end of this year. The company’s Texas based Gigafactory will serve as production hub for the electric pickup truck. Initially, the automaker will bring in two higher-end trims (with dual and tri motor powertrains) in the US market. Its deliveries might begin in 2022. It has gathered around 200,000 pre-bookings across the globe.
