Tata Motors has high hopes with its newly-launched Punch micro SUV that comes at an introductory price of Rs 5.49 lakh (ex-showroom). These prices will be applicable till 31st December 2021. Deliveries of the pre-launch bookings have already been commenced across the nation. In order to ensure on time deliveries and reduce impact of the semiconductor shortage, the automaker have taken multiple internal measures including closely coordinating with the semiconductor suppliers, increasing use of standard chips instead of specialized units and more.
Shailesh Chandra, President, Passenger Vehicle Business at Tata Motors, revealed that the company has enough stock to hand over vehicle to customers who have booked it before its launch. The Tata Punch is said to be the brand’s top model to receive highest pre-launch bookings till date. Its officially bookings were opened on 4th October 2021. As the bookings keep pouring in, the company will be able to access its waiting period in the next 30 days.
The new Tata mini SUV houses a 1.2L, 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine under the hood. The motor returns a claimed power of 86bhp and 113Nm of torque. With the 5-speed manual and AMT gearboxes, the model offers a fuel economy of 18.97kmpl and 18.82kmpl. The Punch model lineup is spread across four trims – Pure, Adventure, Accomplished and Creative. All trims are available with optional custom packs, namely, Rhythm, Dazzle and iRA.
The home-grown carmaker also confirmed that the Tata Punch might get an electric iteration in future. While its official launch timeline hasn’t yet revealed, it’s likely to arrive sometime next year. Based on the Alfa platform, the Punch EV will use the brand’s Ziptron electric powertrain. It’s expected to offer a range of over 300kms. Tata will also introduce the Altroz EV in early 2022. The premium electric hatchback will also be packed with the updated Ziprtron powertain.
