Tata Punch Diesel Launch Planned? – Spotted Testing

Tata Punch diesel variant was recently spotted at a fuel station in Pune. While there is no official word on its launch and details, the model seems to be under its testing phase. Currently, the small SUV is available with a 1.2L, 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that’s good enough for 86bhp and 113Nm. The motor features automatic engine start/stop function that enhances its fuel efficiency.

The micro SUV can be had with either a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox. It’s claimed to deliver 18.97kmpl with manual and 18.82kmpl with automatic transmission. The company says that the Punch AMT variants get traction modes similar to the bigger Tata SUV. The new Tata small SUV can accelerate 0 to 60kmph in 6.5 seconds and 0-100kmph in 16.5 seconds.

If reports are to be believed, the Tata Punch might receive a more powerful, turbocharged petrol engine in early 2022. The turbo motor will be offered on higher trims only – i.e. Accomplished and Creative. Powering the small SUV will be the 1.2L turbo petrol engine pushing out a peak power of 108bhp and 140Nm.

The turbo petrol motor will be available with 5-speed manual gearbox only. It’s the slightly detuned version of the Nexon’s petrol unit that offers power worth 120bhp and 170Nm. The same motor powers the Tata Altroz iTurbo. The upcoming Tata Punch turbo petrol will be more powerful than cars like Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger.

At present, the Punch micro SUV comes in the price range of Rs 5.49 lakh – Rs 9.09 lakh. The model lineup includes three automatic variants – Adventure AMT, Accomplished AMT and Creative AMT – priced at Rs 6.99 lakh, Rs 7.89 lakh and Rs 9.09 lakh respectively. All aforementioned prices are ex-showroom. The company is offering customization packs with the small SUV, namely Rhythm pack (for Pure and Adventure trims only), Dazzle (for Accomplished trim) and IRA packs (for Creative trim).
