Tata Motors had launched the Tata Nexon EV in the country on January 28, 2020. The electric SUV is available in 3 variants – XM, XZ, and XZ+ Lux – priced at Rs 13.99 lakh, Rs 14.99 lakh and Rs 15.99 lakh respectively. The latest sales data shows that the Tata Nexon EV grabs 60.23% electric market share.

Tata Motors sold 296 units of the Tata Nexon EV in August, which accounts to 66 per cent of the total electric vehicles sold. The company has delivered 848 units of the SUV in the past 4 months. On the other hand, MG Motors sold 387 units of the eZS electric SUV in the past 4 months. In August 2020, MG Motors delivered 119 units of the eZS capturing 26 per cent of the market share. Hyundai delivered 71 units of the Kona EV, while Tata Motors sold 95 units of the Tigor EV in August 2020.
Tata Motors has recently combined its passenger vehicle and electric vehicles verticals. The company aims to further boost its market share in the fast growing electric car segment. In the next 1-2 years, the company aims to launch the electric versions of the Altroz and the HBX micro SUV.
Talking about the Nexon EV, the electric SUV features the brand’s Ziptron EV technology that comprises of a 30.2kWh lithium-ionbattery powering a 129bhp, permanent magnet AC motor. This electric motor offers a peak torque of 245Nm. It is claimed to achieve 0-100kmph in just 9.9 seconds and offers an electric range of 313km on a single charge. The SUV also has fast charging capability, as the battery can be charged up to 80% in 1 hour by using a DC fast charger. The battery pack takes 8-9 hours to get fully charged via a standard 15A AC charger. The Tata Nexon electric SUV also comes with an energy regeneration function.
