Tata Motors will also introduce an all-electric version of the Punch micro SUV, which is set to be launched in the next couple of weeks. The new model will initially be launched in a single 1.2L NA petrol version; however, the Punch can be fitted with a turbo petrol engine, a diesel engine and an electric powertrain.

The Punch is based on Tata’s new ALFA platform, which is compatible with multiple engine options including CNG. The Punch EV will come with the company’s Ziptron high-voltage architecture, which is the same offered in the Nexon and Tigor EVs. Expect the new Punch based electric micro SUV to return over 300km range.

The new models will be based on a low-cost skateboard platform with lots of components sourced locally. The new EVs from Hyundai and Kia should offer a real-world range of over 200kms. These are expected to be priced under Rs 15 lakh. It was reported that Hyundai will develop new EVs on an all-new platform under its “Smart EV” project.
