Tata HBX Small SUV – Harrier-Inspired Front, Dual-Tone Alloys

Tata Motors has been extensively testing its upcoming HBX concept based small SUV for quite sometime. Recently, a test mule of the mini SUV was caught on camera revealing new interesting design details. The production-ready Tata HBX will feature some styling elements inspired by its bigger siblings – Nexon and Harrier. While the projector headlamps with LED DRLs are likely to be carried over from the Harrier, the ‘Humanity Line’ front grille and signature tri-arrow design on the air dam will come from the Nexon.

The prototype is equipped with dual-tone alloy wheels (possibly around 15/16-inch) with four-split spoke design. At the back, the upcoming Tata small SUV is likely to get LED taillamps and a raked windshield. The upright stance will be retained from the concept. The HBX will share its underpinning with the Tata Altroz premium hatchback – i.e. ALFA architecture. The overall length, width and height of the concept stand at 3840mm, 1822mm and 1635mm respectively. Though, dimensions of the final version might be slightly different.

Interior of the upcoming Tata HBX small SUV is still a mystery to us. Though, it’s likely to share most of its features with the concept. Some of its components might be carried over from the Altroz hatchback such as a floating touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, a multi-function steering wheel and instrument cluster. The feature list might also include a Harman audio system, climate control, keyless entry with push button start and cruise control. Read – 7 New Tata Cars To Launch in 2021

The HBX concept based mini SUV might be offered with a single 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol engine making power worth 86PS and 113Nm of torque. It’s the same powertrain that does duty in the Tiago hatchback. Both manual and AMT gearboxes could be on offer. Tata might also introduce an electric iteration of the Tata HBX small SUV at a later stage. If reports are to be believed, the production-ready HBX might be named ‘Tata Hornbill’.
