Tata Harrier Petrol SUV Closer To Its Launch

Tata Motors will soon expand its Harrier SUV model lineup with the addition of petrol variants. The gasoline version, which is currently in its final testing phase, is reported to come with a new 1.6L turbocharged DI (direct-injection) motor. Tata’s new petrol engine is said to be more powerful than the MPFI (Multi Point Fuel Injection) units. In fact, its emission levels will be lower as well. Its power and torque outputs are likely to be around 160bhp and 250Nm respectively. The Tata Harrier petrol will come with automatic gearbox, paddle shifters and multiple drive modes (including Sport mode).

At present, the Tata Harrier is available with a 2.0L turbocharged diesel engine delivering a peak power of 173bhp and 350Nm of torque. It can be had either with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox. Rumour has it that the automaker might introduce the Tata Harrier petrol with a hybrid system at a later stage. If it happens, the SUV will comply with the upcoming CAFÉ (Corporate Average Fuel Efficiency) emission II norms that will be enforced from 1st April 2022.
