Tata Gravitas Automatic Spotted – Hyundai’s Gearbox, No Sunroof

Recently, a test mule of the Tata Gravitas automatic variant was spotted testing in Mahabaleshwar. The spy pictures reveal some interesting exterior and interior details of the model. The two major highlights of the prototype were its Hyundai-sourced 6-speed automatic gearbox and the missing sunroof. If reports are to be believed, the final production version of the SUV might come with the conventional sunroof.

The interior pictures show the grey trim and ivory upholstery for the seats and door pads. The new 6/7-seater SUV from Tata will come with an electronic parking brake and auto hold function. There will be an 8.8-inch floating infotainment system with the latest smartphone connectivity and voice recognition feature. Its other key highlights will include a 3-spoke steering wheel with mounted controls, a 7-inch instrument panel, adjustable driver’s seat, climate control system, rear armrest with cup holders, cruise control, push button start and more.

Compared to its younger sibling – Harrier, the Gravitas will be 63mm longer, 72mm wider and 80mm taller. Minor cosmetic changes have also been made to the model. It gets a cascading grille with honeycomb mesh, squared wheel arches, body cladding on the sides, roof rails, LED taillamps, a big rear windscreen and a roof mounted spoiler.

Under the hood, the Tata Gravitas will feature the 2.0L, 4-cylinder diesel engine that’s good enough for 168bhp and 350Nm. It’s the same powertrain that does duty in the Harrier. The upcoming Tata SUV can be had with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission sourced from Hyundai.
