Hyundai-owned Genesis luxury carmaker has revealed its second SUV, called the Genesis GV70. This SUV will sit below the full-sized GV80 in the international markets. It is the fifth model under the Genesis nameplate. The company is currently offering G70, G80 and G90 sedans, and the larger GV80 SUV.
The new Genesis GV70 will directly rival the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and the Mercedes-Benz GLC in the mid-sized luxury SUV category. Like other models in the Genesis lineup, the GV70 will be based on the rear-wheel-drive platform; all-wheel drive will also be available as optional.
The new Genesis GV70 is designed on the ‘Athletic Elegance’ design philosophy. Design highlights include signature Crest grille, two-lines quad lamps with integrated LED DRLs and silver skid plate at the bottom of the front bumper, aggressive creases and lines, muscular rear fenders, coupe-like roofline, and the dropping chrome line to the C-pillar. At the back, the tail-lamps feature the ultra-thin, two-lined Quad Lamp. It also gets G-Matrix pattern-applied bumper, a unique vertical shaped muffler, and a body-colored diffuser. While the SUV’s design is inspired by the bigger GV80 SUV, the interior share its design and features from the G70 saloon.
The company has also unveiled a new Genesis GV70 Sport model, which comes with an exclusively designed front bumper and 21-inch, G-Matrix pattern-applied wheels, as well as dark chrome garnishes and a large diameter exhaust. Inside the cabin, the Sport model offers exclusive colors and trim, including a sport steering wheel and carbon-fiber appointed consoles and doors.
The company hasn’t released the technical details of the new GV70; however, it is likely to share the engine options with the G70 sedan. The SUV could be offered with 2 engine options – a 245bhp, 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol and a 196bhp, 2.2-litre diesel.
