Tata Motors is preparing a wide range of new SUVs, which will be offered with electric and petrol engine options. The company had revealed two new turbocharged petrol engines at the 2023 Auto Expo. The new turbocharged gasoline direct injection (TGDi) engines come in engine capacity of 1.2L and 1.5L. The new 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine will power the new Nexon and the Tata Curvv concept based SUV.
Tata Motors had showcased the Curvv petrol concept at the 2023 Auto Expo. The production version of the SUV Coupe is scheduled to be launched sometime in 2024. Adding to it, the company has started testing the new Nexon compact SUV on the Indian streets. The Tata Curvv and the new Nexon will also receive an electric version.
The Tata Curvv concept is based on Tata’s Generation 2 EV architecture that’s compatible with multiple bodystyles and powertrain options. It’s essentially the heavily modified version of the brand’s existing platforms. The Gen 2 architecture has been designed to accommodate larger batteries and different powertrains. The Curvv will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder.
It is expected that the new Nexon could be based on Tata’s Gen 2 architecture, which will allow Tata to offer more space inside the cabin. The new model will also receive modern features like a bigger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a factory-fitted sunroof, ventilated seats, a digital driver’s display and others.
The new Tata’s 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine is capable of producing 125PS of power at 5,000rpm and a peak torque of 225Nm between 1700-3500rpm. It is expected to be offered with a 6-speed manual and a dual-clutch automatic gearbox options.
