Tata Motors has officially announced that the launch of much-anticipated Bolt hatchback will take place on the 20th of January 2015 in Mumbai. It will be the first big launch from the homegrown automaker. Based on the thoroughly modified X1 platform that also underpins the Zest compact sedan, the Bolt hatchback gets aggressive styling and is equipped with segment-leading features. It is likely to be priced around Rs. 4-7 lakh. Bookings for the car have already commenced at a token amount of Rs. 11,000.
The Tata Bolt hatchback will be offered in both petrol and diesel fuel options. While the petrol motor is the 1.2-litre REVOTRON turbo unit that is good for 88bhp and 140Nm, the oil burner is the tried & tested Fiat’s sourced 1.3-litre multi-jet unit that churns out a maximum power output of 74bhp and a peak torque of 190Nm. Power is transmitted to front wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. It is expected that the company might also introduce the automated manual transmission equipped variant of the hatchback.
Sharing its features with the Zest compact sedan, the Bolt hatchback gets smartphone connected navigation system with touchscreen interface, automatic climate control, airbags for both driver and co-driver, multi-functional steering wheel, ABS, etc. The petrol variant also offers the driver selectable multi-mode option- Sport, City and Eco. The Tata Bolt will rival against the likes of Hyundai Grand i10, Maruti Suzuki Swift, Ford Figo and Chevrolet Beat.
