Earlier this year, Tata Motors announced its dedicated electric vehicle division – Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited (TPEML). The new EV sub-division has three platform strategy that will underpin the upcoming Tata electric cars for the next 10 years. It includes a converted IC (internal combustion) engine platform, a bespoke EV platform (Sigma) and a skateboard. While the converted IC engine architecture range consists of the Tata Nexon EV and the new Tiago EV, the upcoming Tata Altroz EV and Tata Punch EV will be based on the Sigma platform.

Compared to an IC engine conversion EV, the Tata Altroz EV and Tata Punch EV which will underpin the Sigma architecture are expected to be lighter, more energy efficient and spacious.
