The 5-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny is undoubtedly one of the much-awaited new car launches of the next year (2023). The carmaker will showcase its final production version at the Delhi Auto Expo that will be held in January in Greater Noida. At the biennial event, the carmaker will also unveil its two upcoming new SUVs including the Maruti Baleno Cross and a new MPV based on the Toyota Innova Hycross. While official debut of the 5-door Maruti Jimny is a month away, its final production ready caught on camera in Delhi. The spotted model was completely covered while unloading from a truck.
Here, the off-road SUV will be made available with a 1.5L K15C naturally aspirated petrol engine boosted with the mild hybrid tech. The setup will deliver a maximum power of 101bhp and 137Nm of torque. The same powertrain does duty in the new Brezza, Grand Vitara and the updated Ertiga and XL6. The new 5-door Jimny can be had with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque convertor automatic transmission.
Similar to the Maruti Grand Vitara, the 5-door Maruti Jimny will come with Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro AWD system. One must note that the Vitara’s AllGrip AWD setup misses out a low-ratio gear that enhances off-road drivability by multiplying engine torque and limiting speed. It can be switched between 2H (two-wheel drive high) and 4H (four-wheel drive high) for off-roading. The new Maruti Jimny will be introduced as a lifestyle off-road SUV that’s reported to measure 3850mm in length, 1645mm in width and 1730mm in height.
Official details of the new Jimny 5-door are still under the wraps. Though, it’s likely to come with a larger 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system instead of a 7-inch unit. Some of its features will be borrowed from the new Brezza and Grand Vitara.
