The Japanese automaker has revealed details of its new strong hybrid powertrain that’s introduced on the UK-spec Suzuki Vitara SUV. The setup includes a 1.5L K15C naturally aspirated petrol engine, a 140V lithium-ion battery pack and an electric motor. The SUV also has a 12V lithium-ion battery and a 12V lead-acid batter for lights, climate control systems and other components.
While the gasoline unit makes a peak power of 115bhp and 138Nm of torque, the electric motor is good for 33bhp and 60Nm. The Suzuki Vitara hybrid comes with a 6-speed AMT gearbox. In Eco mode, the new Suzuki Vitara SUV runs only on the electric motor at low speeds. The model comes with FWD (front-wheel drive) system and offers a claimed fuel economy of 22.5kmpl. It accelerates 0 to 62mph in 12.7 seconds, while maintaining a top speed of 111mph. Its WLTP combined CO2 emissions stand at 121g/km.
Suzuki’s new strong hybrid powertrain is likely to make its India debut on Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming mid-size SUV that slated to arrive in the second half of 2022. Codenamed Maruti YFG, the model will be positioned against the cars like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Astor, Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun. The new Maruti SUV will be designed on the Daihatsu’s DNGA (Daihatsu New Global Architecture) modular platform.
The latest spy images reveal that the Maruti YFG will carry split headlamps with A-Cross inspired LED DRLs and front grille as we have seen on the new Baleno. Similar to the prototype, the production-ready version might come with 17-inch alloy wheels, prominent wheel arches and ground clearance around 200mm. Its interior could be packed with features such as a large touchscreen infotainment system, connected car tech and more.
More details on the upcoming new Maruti Suzuki mid-size SUV will be revealed in coming months. Stay tuned to IndiaCarNews.
