Suzuki Swift Cross Micro SUV Key Details – Tata Punch Fighter

The fourth-generation Suzuki Swift is ready to debut next year, while its sportier version – Swift Sport will be unveiled sometime in 2023. According to a fresh media report, the Japanese automaker is working on a micro SUV that will be based on the new-generation Swift hatchback. Its final production version will be named Suzuki Swift Cross.

 In the company’s product lineup, the small SUV will sit above the Ignis and below the Vitara. As of now, there is no official word on its India launch. Even if India is on the launch radar, the new Maruti micro SUV will lock horns against the newly-launched Tata Punch.

2022 Maruti Swift Features

The new Suzuki Swift Cross is reported to have its world premiere in 2024. The mini SUV might share its platform and engine with the new-generation Swift hatchback. Though, it will have higher ground clearance, skid plate and heavy plastic cladding enhancing its SUV-ish appearance. The model will have different sheet metal than the new Swift and carry more upright stance that the Swift Sport.

Under the hood, the upcoming Suzuki Swift Cross might house a 1.4L turbocharged petrol engine benefited with the 48V mild hybrid technology. The same powertrian does duty in the Swift Sport. The gasoline unit pushes out a peak power of 129bhp and 235Nm of torque. Its Japan-spec version is likely to be offered with Suzuki’s AllGrip AWD (all-wheel drive) system along with the updated suspension unit.

Talking about Maruti Suzuki’s future plan, the Indo-Japanese automaker is working on multiple new SUVs for the Indian market. It includes a Baleno-based crossover and a mid-size SUV (under its joint venture with Toyota). The company is also reported to bring in the 5-door Jimny in 2022. Maruti Suzuki’s popular models such as Alto, Vitara Brezza and Swift will witness a generation change and the Baleno, Ciaz, XL6 and Ertiga will receive mid-life updates.
