Soon-to-be-Launched Compact SUVs In India

Sub-4-meter SUVs are quite popular among buyers these days. We already have several models in this space right from the newly-launched Kia Sonet and Toyota Urban Cruiser to Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300 and Ford EcoSport. In coming months, three more carmakers will mark their entry to the highly fiercer subcompact SUV segment, namely, Nissan, Renault and Tata Motors. Here’s a brief on the soon-to-be launched compact SUVs.

1. Nissan Magnite

Nissan India is betting big on the Magnite subcompact SUV that’s slated to launch on coming 26th November. Unofficial bookings of the vehicle have already been commenced across the nation. The Nissan Magnite model lineup will be spread across four trims (XE, XL, XV and XV Premium) and is reported to be priced as low as Rs 5.50 lakh for the base variant. The compact SUV will be offered with 1.0L naturally-aspirated and 1.0L turbocharged petrol engine options. While the former will come with a 5-speed manual gearbox only, the latter one can be had with either a manual or a CVT automatic transmission.

2. Renault Kiger

Renault Kiger Compact SUV

The French carmaker recently unveiled the Kiger subcompact SUV concept for the Indian market. The carmaker says that its production model will stay 80% true to the concept. The new Renault compact SUV will be first launched in India early 2021, followed by other global markets. Most of its design elements and features are similar to the Triber. Though, minor changes have been made to the compact SUV. Similar to Nissan’s Magnite, the Renault Kiger will be made available with 1.0L naturally-aspirated and 1.0L turbo petrol engines. Both manual and automatic gearboxes will be on offer. It’s estimated to be priced from Rs 5.50 lakh (ex-showroom).

3. Tata HBX

Tata Motors is ready to launch the HBX concept based mini SUV in the second quarter of 2021 (possibly in May). The micro SUV will feature Tata’s Impact 2.0 design language and underpin the Alfa platform that has already been used in the Altroz premium hatchback. While its official details are yet to be revealed, the Tata HBX is likely to come with the 1.2L naturally-aspirated petrol and 1.2L turbo petrol engine options. The latter one could be reserved for the higher trims. The model lineup can be had with either a 5-speed manual transmission or an AMT gearbox. Tata claims that the production version of the HBX will retain most of its design bits from the concept that broke cover at this year’s Auto Expo in February.
