Renault has announced the production version of the HBC subcompact SUV concept will be called the Kiger. Its official launch will take place early 2021. The Kiger will be the smallest and most affordable SUV from the French carmaker in the country. The compact SUV will be based on the CMF-A+ platform similar to the Triber MPV and ensure generous cabin space.
Visually, the new Renault compact SUV appears sporty. Some of its key design elements include the LED DRL cluster flanking the wing-like grille, sleek headlamps positioned lower down the bumper, green LED dynamic turn indicators flowing outwards from the centre, chunky roof rails, a prominent C-pillar, sharply raked windscreen and angular C-shaped LED taillamps splitting horizontally via a strip of metal.
Interior of new Renault compact SUV will be similar to the Triber. Though, minor changes will distinguish it from its MPV sibling. The Kiger will receive newly-designed air-con vents and centre console with integrated floating touchscreen infotainment system. Features such as shared switchgear on the centre console, steering wheel, dual glove boxes and digital instrument cluster will be borrowed from the Triber.
Engine setup of the Renault Kiger will include a 1.0-litre naturally aspirated and a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol motor. The upcoming Nissan Magnite compact SUV will also come with the same engine options. While the naturally aspirated unit will come with manual and AMT gearbox options, the turbo-petrol motor will can be had with either manual or CVT automatic transmission. Renault will introduce the 1.0L petrol turbo motor in the Triber MPV in coming months.
In the subcompact SUV space, the new Renault Kiger will face challenge from multiple cars including Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Maruti Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport, Mahindra XUV500 and the upcoming Nissan Magnite. Prices of the upcoming Renault compact SUV are likely to start from Rs 6.00 for the base variant to Rs 8.00 lakh for the top-end model.
