Czech automaker has finally revealed the much-awaited Skoda Vision IN SUV concept ahead of its global public premiere at the 2020 Auto Expo. Alongside the Vision IN, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India has also showcased the Volkswagen Taigun compact SUV. Here is all you need to know about the new Vision IN SUV –
Skoda has confirmed that the Vision IN based mid-sized SUV will arrive in our market in the first half of 2021. Production of the car will commence towards the end of this year. This SUV will also mark the debut of VW Group’s made-in-India MQB AO IN platform, which also underpins the Volkswagen Taigun SUV.
Inspired by the Kamiq SUV, the Skoda Vision IN concept based SUV will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks and the Kia Seltos. Adding to it, the SUV will challenge the entry-level variants of the Tata Harrier and the MG Hector.
The Skoda Vision IN SUV will be made available in petrol avatar only. It will receive a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine that is capable of producing 130bhp of power. It will also receive a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing 115bhp of power and 200Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG automatic. The company also plans to introduce the CNG version of the SUV.
In terms of styling, the Skoda Vision IN is inspired by the Kamiq SUV sold abroad. It comes with India-specific changes, featuring bolder and more upright front. Upfront is a signature chrome-embellished grille and split projector headlamps, a larger bumper with wider air-inlets and a three slot skid plate. Plastic cladding can be seen all around the body.
Other design highlights include crystal-like LED tail-lights and a light strip that runs across the width, a skid plate, roof-mounted spoiler, flared wheel arches, prominent roof rails and larger alloys. It rides on 2,651mm of wheelbase and has a length of 4,261mm.
The Skoda Vision IN SUV also shares interior with the Kamiq SUV. It comes with dark grey interior scheme with contrasting orange inserts around the dashboard, on central console and on the door panels. The dashboard is dominated by a free-standing 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a virtual cock-pit. The infotainment system will be compatible with modern-day connectivity features. It has touch interface for the climate control in the central console tunnel. The SUV gets multi-functional flat-bottomed steering wheel, rear AC vents, leather seats, etc.
