Skoda To Launch 2 New Locally-Developed Cars In 2021

Czech automaker, Skoda is readying 2 all-new locally developed cars for the Indian market. It is now confirmed that these two models will be launched before the end of 2021. The company will first launch an all-new mid-sized SUV based on the Vision IN Concept in Q2, 2021.

Skoda will introduce an all-new mid-sized sedan in the end of 2021. The new model will come as a replacement for the existing Rapid sedan. Internally called Skoda ANB, the new mid-sized sedan will take on the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Honda City and the Hyundai Verna. Compared to the Rapid, the forthcoming sedan from Skoda is expected to grow in size and will be equipped with several high-end features.

Skoda Vision IN front

The upcoming Skoda Vision IN and the ANB sedan will be based on the heavily localised MQB AO IN platform. The new models will be powered by a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which currently powers the Rapid sedan. This engine is capable of producing 110PS of power at 5,000rpm and 175Nm of torque at 1,750rpm. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.

Skoda Vision IN concept based SUV will also receive a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that also powers the Skoda Karoq. This engine churns out a maximum power output of 148bhp and a peak torque of 250Nm. Power will be transmitted to the front wheels via a 7-speed DSG automatic. The company could also introduce the CNG version of the sedan and the SUV as VW Group has decided to discontinue small diesel cars in India.

Skoda Kosmiq Vision IN Interior

Unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo, the new Skoda Vision IN Concept previews the brand’s upcoming mid-sized SUV to take on the likes of the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. The new SUV is rumoured to be called the Skoda Kosmiq. Measuring around 4.25m in length, the new Vision IN concept is marginally smaller than the new Hyundai Creta. It rides on a wheelbase of 2,671mm.
