Kia Motors has recently revealed the much-awaited new Sonet sub-4 meter SUV, which is scheduled to be launched in September 2020. Ahead of the launch, engine specifications and variant details of the Kia Sonet have been leaked on the internet. Similar to the Venue, the new Sonet will also receive the 1.0L turbocharged petrol engine. However, this variant will miss out on manual gearbox option.
The Korean automaker won’t offer a proper six-speed manual gearbox in the Sonet Turbo. This version will only come with 6-speed iMT (Intelligent Manual Transmission) and 7-speed DCT (Dual-Clutch Transmission). Kia Sonet’s cousin, Hyundai Venue Turbo is available with 3 gearbox options – a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed iMT and a 7-speed DCT. The Sonet’s 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine is capable of producing 118bhp of power and 172Nm of torque. Other engine options will include a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol and a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel. While the former is good for 82bhp and 113Nm of torque, the oil burner produces 99bhp of power and 215Nm of torque. Diesel Sonet will also offer a 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox option.
The Kia Sonet will be made available in two trim levels – Tech Line and GT Line. It comes equipped with several high-end comfort and convenience features. The top-spec model gets ventilated front seats for both driver and co-driver. It also has integrated air purifier, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, UVO connected car technologies, Bose premium sound system with 7 speakers, and 360 degree camera. Some of the high-end features include front and rear adjustable headrests, traction control, wireless phone charger, height adjustable driver’s seat, smart key push button, 6 airbags, brake assist, ABS with EBD, tyre pressure monitoring system, front disc brakes, etc.
