Skoda Slavia Sedan Spotted; Coming To Challenge City, Ciaz, Verna

Skoda has planned several new models for the Indian market. Recently, the carmaker has confirmed that it will launch the fourth-generation Octavia sedan and Kushaq mid-size SUV in the month of June. After both these models, the company will foray into the mid-size sedan segment with the all-new Skoda Slavia (codenamed Skoda ANB). The production-ready version of the sedan is likely to hit roads towards the end of this year. It will be positioned against the Hyundai Verna, Honda City and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.

The new Skoda sedan was recently caught testing in Pune. The test mule was heavily camouflaged covering most of its design details. Though, one can notice the newly-designed headlamps, which are flanked by a wide grille featuring vertical slats. Its other design highlights include LED taillamps, an integrated roof spoiler and a shark fin antenna. The Slavia’s notchback-like design seems inspired by the new-generation Octavia.

As of now, the interior details of the new Skoda sedan are not available. Though, it’s likely to share some of its features and components with the Skoda Kushaq SUV. The Skoda Slavia will be built on the VW Group’s MQB A0 IN platform that will also underpin the upcoming Kushaq and VW Taigun SUVs. The new architecture, which is being developed for emerging markets, has been designed to adapt both local climatic conditions and requirements. It will be a highly localised platform.

Engine setup of the upcoming Skoda Slavia sedan is likely to include a 1.0L TSI turbo petrol and a 1.5L turbo petrol unit. The same powertrains will do duty in the Kushaq SUV. The smaller capacity gasoline unit will make power worth 113bhp with 175Nm, the 1.5L motor will produce 147bhp and 250Nm. Both manual and automatic gearboxes will be on offer.

More details on the new Skoda sedan is likely to be revealed in near future. Stay tuned to IndiaCarNews.
