The long-awaited Skoda Kushaq mid-sized SUV will finally go on sale in the Indian market in June 2021. The model will start reaching dealerships by July 2021. This has been confirmed by Zac Hollis, Brand Director, Sales, Service and Marketing, Skoda Auto India.
In a tweet, he said that the Kushaq’s price announcement and specifications will be revealed in June. Bookings for the SUV will also commence in June 2021. The SUV will be in showrooms from July 2021. The SUV launch has been postponed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in India.
He also confirmed that Skoda has no plans to launch the Fabia hatchback in India. Adding to it, the much-awaited mid-sized sedan will arrive in our market in the end of this year. Codenamed Skoda ANB, the new sedan will be positioned above the existing Rapid and will rival the Honda City, Hyundai Verna and the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.
Skoda Kushaq Details
The new Kushaq is the first vehicle to be launched under Volkswagen Group’s India 2.0 strategy. It will also mark the debut of heavily localised MQB AO IN platform, which will also underpins the mid-sized sedan and the Volkswagen Taigun. The Skoda Kushaq mid-sized SUV will directly rival the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and the Nissan Kicks.
Dimensionally, the new Kushaq measure 4,221mm long, 1,760mm wide and 1,612mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2651mm. The SUV offers a boot space of 385-litres, which can be extended by folding the second row of seats. The SUV has the longest wheelbase in its category, which should help the brand to create more space inside the cabin.
The Skoda Kushaq mid-sized SUV will be offered with two engine options – a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol and a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol. While the former is good for 113bhp of power and 175Nm of torque, the 1.5L engine churns out 147bhp of power and 250Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed torque convertor automatic (1.0L only) and a 7-speed DSG automatic with 1.5L petrol.
The new Skoda Kushaq will be offered in 5 exterior colour options – Honey Orange, Tornado Red, Brilliant Silver, Carbon Steel and Candy White. In terms of features, the Skoda Kushaq SUV will get a new 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support and Wireless MirrorLink, and auto-dimming IRVM, ventilated front seats, keyless entry, wireless charging, LED DRLs, LED tail-lamps with connected LED strip, electrically foldable & adjustable ORVMs with integrated LED blinkers, 17-inch dual-tone alloys, electric sunroof, etc.
