We informed you earlier that Skoda is gearing up for the launch of a new special edition of the Rapid sedan. To be launched during this festive season, the special edition will be called the Skoda Rapid Matte Edition. Ahead of the official launch, key details of the new edition have been leaked on the web.
The Skoda Rapid Matte Edition will be offered in an exclusive Matte Grey exterior finish with Gloss Black highlights. The Gloss Black treatment will be added to the front grille, front and boot spoilers. It will ride on gloss black finished 16-inch alloy wheels. The Matte Edition will also receive a sporty diffuser and black ORVMs.
Inside the cabin, the new Skoda Rapid Matte Edition will come with black Alcantara seat covers. The sedan will also receive Tellur Grey interiors, reverse camera and sporty flat bottom steering wheel. The sedan will get an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto connectivity, automatic AC, cruise control, 4 airbags, a rear parking camera, hill hold control, ESC, ABS with EBD and others.
The Skoda Rapid Matte Edition will be powered by a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that powers the standard Rapid. This engine is capable of producing 108bhp of power and 175Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.
This special edition is expected to be priced around Rs 50,000 more than the current range-topping Style trim. The Rapid Style is priced at Rs 11.69 lakh and Rs 12.99 lakh for manual and automatic version respectively. It is expected to be the last addition to the Rapid range, as the sedan will be discontinued on the arrival of new Skoda sedan – codenamed ANB. The new sedan is reportedly to be called the Skoda Slavia, which will be based on the MQB AO IN platform. It will rival the Honda City, Hyundai Verna and the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.
