Skoda Auto is ready to launch the Rapid Matte Edition by the end of September 2021. The model was previewed in its concept avatar at the last year’s Auto Expo. The production-ready version is likely to witness minor cosmetic changes over the concept. In terms of pricing, the Skoda Rapid Matte Edition is expected to cost around Rs 50,000 premium over the range-topping Style trim. The Rapid Style manual and automatic variants are currently available at Rs 11.69 lakh and Rs 12.99 lakh respectively (all, ex-showroom). The Skoda Rapid Matte Edition will be the brand’s first-ever factory painted Matte coloured model of the sedan. Similar to its concept, the final model will feature gloss black inserts on the front grille and ORVMs and smoked tinted headlamps and fog lamps. The red highlights on the brake calipers, mirror caps, side moulding, rear diffuser and trunk lid spoiler will add more to its sporty looks. What further distinguish it from the regular model are the blacked-out, newly-designed 17-inch alloy wheels and stainless-steel scuff plates with ‘Rapid’ badge.
The Tellular Grey interior theme with premium black Alcantara seat covers will be retained from the concept. It will come with the leather wrapped steering wheel and gearshift. On the feature front, the new Rapid Matte Edition will offer an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto connectivity, automatic AC unit, cruise control, 4 airbags, a rear parking camera, hill hold control, electronic stability control, ABS with EBD and more. Powering the Skoda Rapid Matte Edition will be the same BS6-compliant 1.0L, 3-cylinder TSI turbocharged petrol engine that does duty in the regular model. The motor has been tuned for generating power worth 110bhp and 175Nm of torque. It promises a mileage of around 20kmpl, which is 20% higher than its BS4 version. The special model could be offered with both 6-speed manual and automatic gearbox.
