Skoda Auto is ready to foray into the mid-size SUV segment in India with the Kushaq. Prices of the model will be announced in June and its deliveries will begin in July 2021. Ahead of its official arrival, the image of its production-ready model painted in White colour scheme has been leaked on the web. The carmaker has already revealed that the Skoda Kushaq will come with two turbocharged petrol engines – 1.0L, 3-cylinder TSI and 1.5L, 4-cylinder TSI.
The gasoline unit returns a claimed power of 115bhp and the oil burner makes 150PS. The latter one features Active Cylinder Technology (ACT) that switched off 2 cylinders (out of 4) as per the power requirements. These cylinders are re-activated by the system when more engine power is needed. Skoda’s ACT enhances engine’s efficiency, while reducing fuel consumption and associated emissions. The SUV model lineup will come with three gearbox options – a 6-speed manual (standard), a 6-speed automatic (1.5L TSI only) and a 7-speed DSG automatic (1.5L TSI only).
The upcoming Skoda SUV has been designed on the India-specific MQB-A0 IN platform that will help carmaker achieve competitive pricing. The model will have plenty of cabin space and luggage area (385-litres) to offer. Its interior layout is quite simple. The Skoda Kushaq has a 10.1-inch infotainment system with ‘Play’ app along with the latest smartphone connectivity, wireless MirrorLink and ‘mySkoda Connect’.
Features such as with in-car Wi-Fi, a six-speaker audio system, ambient lighting, a wireless charger, USB type-C ports, rear AC vent, ventilated front seats and live-streaming of music and audio podcasts via SIM-based internet access are reserved for the top-end trims. The safety kit of the all Skoda Kushaq variants includes 6 airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), and an intelligent multi-collision braking system, tyre pressure monitoring system, ISOFIX mounts for child seats, hill-hold control and three-point seatbelt for all passengers.
