American SUV maker, Jeep will introduce two new SUVs – a 7-seater SUV based on the Compass and a sub-4 meter SUV in 2021-22. The 7-seater SUV is rumoured to be called the new Jeep Commander, and is scheduled to make global debut in the second half of 2021. The sub-4 meter SUV, codenamed Jeep 516 will arrive in 2022.
Jeep’s lineup will be completely revamped by 2024, which means older models will get new generations in the next couple of years. The American automaker will also introduce the second generation Renegade SUV by 2023. Jeep had introduce the Renegade nameplate in 2015. The SUV received a facelift in 2018, and is already 6 years old.
COVID-19 Pandemic has pushed introduction of Jeep’s new products by 6 months. The second generation Renegade was planned to be introduced in 2022; however, few international media reports that the new model could arrive in 2023. The next-gen Jeep Renegade will retain the existing Small Wide 4×4 platform, which also underpins the Jeep Compass.
Jeep engineers will tweak the platform to offer better performance and off-road capabilities. The platform will first debut in the upcoming Jeep 7-seater SUV. Previous reports claim that the new-gen Jeep Renegade is also under consideration for the Indian market; however, Jeep is yet to make an official announcement on the same.
The second generation Jeep Renegade is likely to be offered in 3 engine options – a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine, a 1.6-litre MJD diesel and an all-new 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine. Both manual and automatic versions will be on offer. Adding to it, the new model will also receive plug-in hybrid and electric powertrian options.
