French automaker, Renault had showcased the Kiger sub-4 meter SUV concept on November 18, 2020. The company will unveil the production version of the Renault Kiger in the first quarter of 2021 (January-March). Renault claims that the production car will share 80% design with the concept.
Sharing Mechanics With Nissan Magnite
The new Kiger will be based on the Renault-Nissan alliance’s CMF-A modular platform, which also underpins the Nissan Magnite and the Renault Triber. The new model will share engine options with the Magnite. The engine options will include a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol and a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol. While the former is good for 72bhp and 96Nm of torque, the turbo engine offers 99bhp and 160Nm of torque. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual and a CVT X-Tronic Automatic (1.0L Turbo Petrol).
Design & Interior
Renault has started testing the Kiger SUV, which reveals some of the design highlights. The spy images reveal that the new model will share most of the design highlights from the show car. In terms of styling, the SUV will have winged grille with two horizontal slats, split headlamp set-up with LED DRLs on top and main headlamp placed lower down the bumper, squared-off wheel arches, dual-tone bumper, black plastic cladding and split tail-lamps.
The compact SUV will have sloping roofline, roof-integrated spoiler and uniquely-styled C-pillar. It will ride on 16-inch alloys.
The cabin will share design cues and features from the Triber MPV. It will have all-new dashboard and central console, which will be dominated by a floating 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. In terms of features, the compact SUV will have automatic AC, multi-functional steering wheel, digital instrument console, dual glovebox, cruise control, around view monitor, etc.
Launch & Price
The production version of the car is scheduled to be unveiled in the first quarter of 2021, while launch could take place in Q2, 2021 (most probably in April). The compact SUV will target the B-segment hatchbacks and the B-segment SUVs, and is expected to be priced around Rs 6 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.
