Renault Duster Production Stopped; New-Gen Model Planned

Launched back in 2012, Renault Duster ruled the mid-size SUV segment for good 3-4 years. However, the competition got fiercer with the launch of Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. In fact, car manufacturers like Skoda, Volkswagen and MG recently entered into the segment with their modern offerings. The Duster has lost its charm and therefore the company decided to stop its production in the country. If reports are to be believed, the French automaker is planning to introduce the third-generation Duster in coming years (possibly in 2023).

One must note that the second-generation Renault Duster was introduced in global markets in 2017. In India, the SUV received a facelift in 2019, followed BS6 update in March 2020 and turbo-petrol engine in August 2020. The company will skip its second-generation and bring in third-gen model in India. The 2023 Renault Duster will underpin the Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance’s CMF-B platform, which is already used in Sandero. The architecture is claimed to be “adapted for different markets and customer expectations around the world”.

2020 Renault Duster Price Cut

If reports are to be believed, the SUV’s new-gen model will be made available with plug-in hybrid and electric powertrains. Here, it’s expected to come with the plug-in hybrid option along with the turbocharged petrol engine boosted with a mild hybrid system. Rumour has it that the new Duster could be offered with 7-seats configuration.

Design and styling of the 2023 Renault Duster is likely to be inspired by the Dacia Bigster concept that previewed the brand’s future 7-seater SUV. The concept features an aggressive looking grille with integrated LED lights, Dacia’s signature Y-shaped headlamps, squared-off front bumper with a large central grille with vertical air intakes, black plastic cladding, multi spoke alloy wheels and Y-shaped taillamps. The new Duster is expected to be packed with advanced connectivity features and comfort goodies.

Official details are expected to be revealed in near future. Stay tuned to IndiaCarNews.
