Production-Ready Honda RS SUV To Debut In August 2022

Honda Cars India is planning to expand its SUV product portfolio with two new SUVs in the next couple of years. One of them will be a mid-size SUV to challenge the dominance of the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos and the other one will be a sub-4 metre SUV to rival Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet. Both models will be designed on the Amaze’s platform. If reports are to be believed, the upcoming Honda compact SUV might share its styling bits, features and powertrains with the Honda RS concept.

According to Indonesian reports, the production-ready version of the Honda RS concept will debut at the 2022 GIIAS auto show in August. The model will feature a 1.5L i-VTEC petrol engine under the hood. It’s the same motor that does duty in the City sedan. As per media reports, the new Honda compact SUV will also be offered with strong hybrid powertrain sourced from the new City hybrid. The latter comes with an Atkison Cycle 1.5L, 4-cylinder engine coupled to two electric motors. The petrol unit delivers 98bhp and with electric assistance it returns 109bhp with 253Nm.

The overall length of the new Honda SUV will be around 4.3 metre. Similar to the concept, the final production version is likely to carry a newly-designed grille, angular wraparound headlamps, neatly designed bumper with a wide airdam, a faux skid plate and fog lamps with vertical slats at the front end. It will feature a tapering roofline with a Coupe-SUV like stance.

The new Honda compact SUV might hit our roads in early 2024. Rumour has it that the Japanese automaker is planning to bring in three-row version of its upcoming mid-size SUV. The model could be offered with 6 and 7-seats configurations. It’s likely to be based on the new-generation Honda BR-V architecture.

More details of the new Honda mid-size SUV will be revealed in near future. Stay tuned to IndiaCarNews.
