We informed you earlier that Honda is working on two new SUVs for the Indian market. The company will launch a new sub-4 meter SUV and a new mid-sized SUV in 2023 and 2024 respectively. What’s interesting is that the new SUVs will be based on the Amaze platform.
Codenamed Honda 3US, the new compact SUV is expected to be launched by mid-2023. It is likely to be unveiled in the early next year. The new SUV will rival the likes of the Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300 and the new Maruti Brezza.
Engine Options
The new Honda compact SUV will be offered with multiple engine options. A new media report claims that the new SUV is likely to be offered with the in-house developed 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine that powers the Amaze, City and the Jazz/WR-V. The diesel version will give competitive advantage, as Maruti, Toyota, Nissan and Renault have already decided to completely cease diesel production in India.
The new compact SUV will also be offered with a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine that powers the Amaze. This engine is capable of producing 90bhp of power and 110Nm of torque. Moreover, the 1.2L petrol engine could also get a hybrid support. Honda could use mild hybrid tech or a strong hybrid tech for the new SUV.
Similar to the new Brezza, the new Honda 3US compact SUV is also likely to be powered by a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine that powers the City sedan. This engine is capable of producing 118bhp and 145Nm of torque. Both manual and CVT automatic gearbox options will be on offer.
Honda Mid-Sized SUV
Likely to be launched in 2024, the new Honda mid-sized SUV will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Astor, VW Taigun and the Skoda Kushaq. In fact, Maruti and Toyota JV is also preparing a mid-sized SUV for the Indian market. The new SUV will share the electronics architecture and platform with the City sedan. It will also come with Honda’s new e:HEV hybrid system.
