Over 9,900 Maruti WagonR, Celerio, Ignis Recalled – Why?

Maruti Suzuki has issued a recall for its three popular models to fix a possible defect in the rear brake assembly pin. The models include Ignis, Celerio and WagonR hatchbacks. The company says it will recall 9,925 units of the vehicles and will reach out to the owners regarding the same. The affected models are manufactured between 3rd August and 1st September, 2022.

The recall campaign is being undertaken to inspect the possible defect and the carmaker will replace parts, if required, free of charge. The inspection and replacement will be done at Maruti Suzuki’s authorized workshops.

The official statement reads “It is suspected that there is a possible defect in rear brake assembly pin (‘Part’), which in a certain case, may break and cause a peculiar noise. here may be a possibility of impact on brake performance in the long run”.

“Considering the safety of customers and out of abundant precaution, the Company has decided to recall the suspected vehicles for inspection and replacement of the faulty Part, free of cost”.

Maruti Suzuki’s Future Plan

The Indo-Japanese automaker aims to tap the growing CNG and SUV market with its new range of models. The company might showcase its three upcoming Utility Vehicles (UVs) at the Delhi Auto Expo in January 2023. The model lineup is likely to include a new Baleno-based compact SUV, 5-door Jimny and a new C-segment MPV. The 5-door Maruti Jimny will be put up against the upcoming 5-door Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha. Maruti Suzuki’s new MPV will take on the Kia Carens along with the upcoming new Hyundai three-row MPV and Toyota’s C-segment MPV.

In coming months, Maruti Suzuki will introduce the CNG variants of its two popular cars – the Baleno premium hatchback and the Brezza sub-4 metre SUV. While the power and torque outputs of CNG models will be slightly lower than their regular petrol counterparts, these will be high on fuel efficiency.
