With the launch of products based on the MQB-A0-IN platform, Skoda Auto India has registered new sales records in the last few months. The latest in the lineup is the Honda City-rivaling Slavia mid-size sedan which comes in three variants and two engine options.
Following is the breakdown of all the variants of the Skoda Slavia so you can see what each variant offers and whether it provides good value for money.
Let’s begin with its specifications: –
Engine | 1-litre turbo-petrol | 1.5-litre turbo-petrol with Active Cylinder Technology |
No of Cylinders | 3 | 4 |
Max Power | 115PS | 150PS |
Max Torque | 178Nm | 250Nm |
Transmission | 6-speed manual/torque converter automatic | 6-speed manual / 7-speed dual-clutch automatic |
Claimed Fuel Efficiency | 19.47kmpl (MT), 18.07kmpl (AT) | 18.72kmpl (MT), 18.41kmpl (DCT) |
Skoda Slavia comes with two turbocharged petrol engine options: a 1.0-litre and a 1.5-litre. Despite being a 3-cylinder unit, the 1-litre TSI engine is quite refined, and the acceleration feels quite relaxed. As a result, it’s easy to drive in stop-and-go traffic and cruise effortlessly on highways. However, sudden overtaking does leave you wanting a bit more power. It is for this reason that the 1.5-litre engine shines, as it feels thrilling to drive, and you’ll push it hard.
Dimensions and Cabin Space
Length | 4541mm |
Width | 1752mm |
Height | 1487mm |
Wheelbase | 2651mm |
Boot Space | 521-litres |
The Skoda Slavia has the highest wheelbase in its class, resulting in generous cabin space with good knee, leg and headroom. The seats are too well cushioned and offer adequate support for the under-thigh, back and shoulders. Three occupants, however, have trouble fitting because of the narrow cabin and strong contouring of the rear seats.

#Only in sunroof equipped variants
Verdict: We recommend the sunroof-equipped variant since it is only 40,000 more expensive than its non-sunroof-equipped counterpart. You also get a host of other additional features for this small premium. It may be a stretch for some to justify the price of the 1.5-litre TSI variants, but it is understandable for those who recognize what the powertrain can offer.
