The second-generation Mahindra Thar was launched in early October 2020 and its deliveries were commenced last month during festive season. In November 2020, the carmaker dispatched around 2,569 units of the off-road SUVs to its dealers across the nation. The new Mahindra Thar received over 2,000 booking in the very first month of its arrival in the market. Attributes such as more rugged design, well-equipped interior and better on-and-off road performance have been working in its favour.
Considering its high demand, Mahindra discontinued the entry-level AX Std and AX petrol and diesel variants of the new Thar. The off-road SUV is currently observing a waiting period of up to 6-7 months. The company says it will ramp up the production from January, 2021. The new Mahindra Thar has already been sold out till May, 2020.
2020 festive season has brought cheers to Mahindra and Mahindra as the company registered 24 per cent sales growth in the domestic passenger vehicle segment. The carmaker managed to sell 18,212 units in November 2020 against 14,637 units of the same month previous year. It exported 1,636 units last month as opposed to 2,621 units in the year-ago month. The Mahindra Bolero was the top-selling vehicle from the home-grown carmaker. The company sold 6,055 units of the Bolero last month against 5,127 units of the same month last year, registering 18 per cent growth. The Mahindra XUV300 and Scorpio grabbed the second and third spot with total sales of 4,458 units and 3,725 units respectively.
The new Mahindra Thar stood at number four, followed by the XUV500. The home-grown carmaker is ready to give a generation change to the XUV500 and Scorpio early next year. Both models will underpin new platform and witness comprehensive changes inside and out. Though, the major change will come in the form of new mStallion petrol engine. The 2021 Mahindra XUV500 and Scorpio will receive a new, more powerful diesel engine.
