Tata Nexon and Punch have been doing really well for the home-grown automaker in the country. In January 2022, the company managed to retail 13,816 units and 10,027 units of the subcompact SUVs respectively. Tata Motors registered a total sales of 76,210 units including export to international markets.
Talking about the Nexon, the model emerged as India’s best-selling SUV for the second straight months now. It witnessed rise of nearly 68 percent over 8,224 units sold in January previous year. The subcompact SUV comes with the 1.2L turbo petrol and 1.5L turbo diesel engines making 120bhp and 110bhp respectively. The Tata Punch entered the list of the top 10 best-selling cars within four months of its market arrival. The mini SUV is available with a 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol motor making 86bhp and 113Nm.
If reports are to be believed, the home-grown automaker is working on an electric version of the Tata Punch boosted with the brand’s Ziptron powertrain. It will be one of the 10 upcoming Tata electric models, which are planned to launch by 2025. The Punch mini SUV model lineup will soon be expanded with the addition the CNG variant. The model, which is currently in its testing phase, will get 1.2L petrol engine with a factory-fitted CNG kit. Rumour has it that the company will introduce the mini SUV with a 1.5L, 4-cylinder diesel in future.
Meanwhile, the company is testing the Tata Nexon CNG variant in the country. The model will come with the 1.2L, 3-cylinder turbo petrol motor coupled to a factory-fitted CNG kit. The Nexon CNG will be slightly less powerful and torquier than the 1.2L gasoline motor that’s good for 86bhp and 113Nm. The former will offer a peak power of 73bhp and 95Nm of torque. It will deliver fuel efficiency of 26.49km/kg.
