Volkswagen Taigun is all set to go on sale on 23rd September 2021. Its official bookings were commenced on 18th August and within 30 days the SUV gathered over 10,000 pre-orders. Speaking to carandbike, Klaus Zellmer, Board Member for Sales, Marketing and After Sales, Volkswagen Brand, has revealed that the company aims to retail around 5,000 – 6,000 units of the Taigun on monthly basis when production will be on full swing. Once launched, it will be positioned against the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and the newly-launched Skoda Kushaq. MG’s upcoming Astor SUV will also take on the VW Taigun. Interestingly, the Taigun will be Volkswagen’s first model to underpin the India-specific MQB A0 IN platform under the brand’s India 2.0 programe. Skoda Auto’s Chakan based facility in Pune is serving production hub for the new Volkswagen mid-size SUV.
The range-topping, sportier GT variant of the Taigun will be available with the 1.5L, 4-cylinder TSI turbo petrol engine and 7-speed DSG automatic/ 6-speed manual gearbox combination only. The gasoline unit is good enough for 148bhp and 250Nm of torque. The SUV model lineup will also be offered with the 1.0L, 3-cylinder TSI turbo petrol motor that can be had with 6-speed manual and automatic gearboxes. One must note that the Volkswagen Taigun GT automatic variant has some extra goodies on offer including a sunroof, an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, paddle shifters, auto dimming inside mirrors, tyre pressure loss indicator, red brake calipers, side and curtain airbags, push button start, 17-inch wheels and LED headlamps.
The GT manual variant gets a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, automatic climate control, electronic stability, a touch operable panel, ABS with EBD, reverse parking camera and more. On the exterior, the Volkswagen Taigun GT model features differently designed headlamps, alloy wheels and lots of chrome treatment.
