Over 1.54 Lakh Tata Nexon, Punch Sold in H1, 2023

The Indian automobile industry has experienced a remarkable first half of the year with total sales of 20,11,062 vehicles, marking the highest-ever half-yearly sales. The average monthly sales in 2023 reached 3,35,177 units, also the highest in history. Among passenger vehicles, SUVs and crossovers hold the largest market share at 46%, followed by hatchbacks with a 33% market share. The top three passenger vehicle manufacturers in India – Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, and Tata – collectively control 70% of the PV market.

Tata Punch Rivals

In the second half of 2023, Maruti Suzuki’s WagonR took the top spot as the best-selling model with total sales of 1,09,278 units, followed by the Swift and Baleno hatchbacks with sales of 1,04,465 units and 1,00,107 units, respectively. Tata’s Nexon emerged as the top-selling SUV with sales of 87,501 units, followed by the Hyundai Creta and Maruti Brezza with sales of 82,566 units and 82,185 units, respectively. The Tata Punch secured the fourth position among top-selling SUVs with sales of 67,117 units in the first half of 2023.

Tata Motors performed well in the market, selling a total of 1,54,618 units of the Nexon and Punch sub-4 metre SUVs. The carmaker is planning a significant update for the Nexon, drawing inspiration from the Curvv concept, which will bring design changes inside and out. The new 2023 Tata Nexon facelift is expected to be powered by a new 1.2L turbocharged petrol engine, and there are reports suggesting the availability of a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox alongside the existing 1.5L diesel engine option.
